I found this item in California between San Francisco and Sacramento! The area were I found it has hosted weddings since early 1900's not sure what was there before that. Some of the houses in the area are from 1850's The item is about the size of a wallet and I think it is made of copper. It has a design of a women with some other markings I hope the picture is ok! I think it is a ladies change purse, but I could be wrong

Thanks,

Mike

Looks like a vintage ladies compact. The two little holes would have hooked on to a chain.

Back in the olden days ;D , when they said "compact", they weren't talking about an article that was really "compact".

I inherited 6 or 7 from my mother (and a couple that came from my grandmother that I don't know the age of). They varied in size from about the size of a powder compact from this day and age, all the way to one that is about the size of a small saucer. My mother had one that size, and, although she never carried face powder, she did keep a little sewing kit and a 2 dimes in it (back from the days that you could make a phone call or catch the bus for a dime). ;D
