I’ve had this and it’s not like most buckles I found. I figured it was some what modern but it still intrigues me. It’s a boring day just waiting for fall. Somewhat large. Any imput would be appreciated. It’s just not the normal horse tack ones I usually dig. I don't have my reference book anymore, however, if memory serves it's a Civil War period US navy buckle.

Did a quick google search and found some examples. Be cool if it was. Be a lot cooler if it wasn’t so plain haha

The casting is too heavy to have been made for civilian use, so having a military function certainly makes sense.
Maybe a rifle sling buckle or is it too narrow for that? :dontknow:

DiggerKid2003, that is exactly what I'm talking about. I had one once, didn't know what I had and sold it.

Yeah you never know what them frame buckles can be. My buddy found a Confederate wishbone last year and thought it was a nameless colonial buckle. Luckily my grandpa was there to let him know.

I found a Georgia frame, I knew what it was but we can't memorize everything.

Smokey you sold the buckle like I had? Just the buckle? If so how did you fare?

Sorry to have to say, the Navy buckle and Kmatch7's do not match, in two important ways. First, the Navy buckle's crossbar is set to the left of center. Kmatch7's is dead-center. Also, as shown in one of Diggerkid2003's photos, the Navy buckle's frame curves slightly outward (a "concave curve")... but Kmatch7's buckle's frame curves back on itself (a "convex curve").

In my opinion, Kmatch7's buckle is a horse-harness buckle. Its crossbar is set way back from the buckle's frame in order to accommodate the passage of two very thick leather harness straps.
