Tried a few ideas today, but all failed for various reasons, so ended up at the same old spot and yesterday and the detecting God has turned off the tap. It's not like there was piles yesterday, but today was quite a struggle just to dig some holes.

Now here's the weird thing that happened. I've been hunting with someone who is a total newbie, so we can have discussions about just about anything, which I am more than happy to have. Today's driving talk on the way to the site was about how rough it must have been back in the day, and how things like having an infection could be a death sentence. I then said a lot of times they were sick they probably didn't even know what they had, and some even used lead for things like spoons having no idea it could be harmful. I said that with the thought in mind of a post that went on here a while back that had many replies, it was a lead pipe, and I bet some regs. would remember it. Anyway, we get to one of the fields to try, me that has never even found a clay pipe, and you know I'm not even sure if I have found a complete bowl of one.... so I walk across the field by the creek where there seems to be a little iron and some pottery, and the only thing I dig is.... can you guess? .... a lead pipe! :laughing7: If you could figure out how to put odds on that one I'd have to think about 100 million to one. 13 or so years of detecting, never found a pipe, never had that conversation on the way to a site, and bang, a lead pipe. Weird. I really have to talk about numbered belt plates more often.

The coin is also a first, so nothing killer, but something.

Maybe not killer, but definitely worth the post! The coin should clean up very nice!

I like the token !

That is a killer find(literally) reminds me of a lead spoon I posted a few moons ago, using it would have lessened a life expectancy without a doubt

Soooooo, next time? Talk about all those 20 dollar gold pieces that farmer's used to keep close to the vest. LOL

I found a piece from a lead pipe a few weeks ago. Thought it was rather interesting. Had some other randoms from that day but never posted.

:laughing7:Wow....I can think of a few things to chat about next time!

I have found lots and lots of clay pipes and bowls but never ever found a lead pipe or even seen one posted befor.
congrats.

Wow , that is odd ! I was in a restaurant in Santa Fe years ago - and for some reason I thought of a gal I was at college with some 15 years
earlier - SHE WALKED IN THE DOOR A MINUTE LATER !!! I hadn't seen her in 15 years - and she lived in another town ! Science can only
explain the observable and the repeatable ...

Weird...and cool pipe! Has your partner been finding anything?

Bits and pieces, but getting a little better with the detector each time out. The beat sites aren't exactly a great place to learn, and is why I had researched several ideas for new 1800s spots today. A couple were grown up, couple had very little, and one left me thinking I was in the twilight zone because I followed the map to get to the area, noted two obvious landmarks, but then one side road with a house was going to be my main point of reference was not there. We literally did the 5 minute drive three times and left me clueless how it seemed like the right spot but was obviously not. As soon as I'm done typing this I'm going to look at the aerial photos and see where I made the mistake. The site dates back to 1818 so probably would have been ok.

Great coin and interesting lead pipe

A few years back the Patriot asked me if I had ever found an arrow head, and the answer was no. Not more than 15 minutes later we're in a field, he digs a hole and one pops out.

Nice digs IP. I know what you mean how weird it can be at times. In all the years of detecting I never found a complete cufflink set, so I made it a goal one night not to long ago. Then went hunting the next day and out of the ground comes a complete 1700's cufflinks. It is funny how things happen but we will take them as they come , CONGRATS on the finds

That is crazy and we had similar things happen.....things that sent chills up my spine!
Lead pipe.......let alone have I never dug one,I dont recall ever seeing but maybe one posted?Looks like a copy of a Kaolin type

The phrase "hit by a lead pipe" takes on a whole new meaning. Can't imagine the guy taking drags of that thing lasted too long.

I don't recall seeing one before either. So, cool for different. You'd think if the guy needed a pipe he could have found a "stick" and whittled one out.

Tomorrow on the drive out, I'm going to talk about gold coins, complete shoe buckles, and 1600 Silvers.

That is a cool story, did that with you before over there with arrow heads...do you remember that one...moments before we talked about it and in a random field I find one...i did that with hunthicks about french silver and he finds one....believe we talked about a gold coin too about 1/2 hour before he found one...
I know what you mean about the lead poisoning that made them sick and they not having a clue what was happening to them...I found a lead spoon and thinking damn, they probably went crazy like the Donner Party...

Nice relic there. Not sure how good the tobacco would taste through that thing. I had the same thing happen to me once. On the way to a hunt my buddy was telling me about these shotgun shells that were full length brass. I said I had never seen one or even heard of them. Sure enough, that day I dug one!

Haha, I was just going to mention how we did that with the french silver and gold. Guess we all need to have more conversations about what we haven't found yet! I found one of those Broke tokens, but it was delaminating so bad the only thing i could do was put clear nail polish over it to hold it together
