Romeo, I noticed that it was paired up with a base in the thread it was originally posted in. Is there reason to believe that these parts did not belong together? The "original" picture makes it look like the top of some type of lid, where you could "grab and twist". In addition, it looks like two "R"s back-to-back as a design.

Then again... I've been near-sighted since 1973...

Depending on the size, I was thinking it may be a relish tray... but this would require that the two parts were fastened together... are there threaded holes in the bottom of the tabs on this item?

I may be way out in left field but it looks like the top of a Japanese war helmet. Not sure but thats what I keep seeing and I know I've seen this design before. Just a thought.

It looks as if the two tabs on the bottom would have fit into something larger. I'm thinking perhaps a decorative draw pull or jewlery box pull. Just a thought.
