Picked this nice chunk up in anthem AZ. It has a vein running through the middle and it's def some kind of iron and copper maybe gold??? It's the size of a brick and very heavy and it glows. You guys know me and how I call everything gold hahah but this is def something special I was thinking from what I have been reading it could possibly be a piece from an iron copper gold deposit. Not sure but would love some help.

Sorry I don't see any gold or quartz.
explain to me then what this metallic gold colored mineral is ? And what you know about iron oxide and how I gold is found encrusted in it?

Hey Chris, Dusted you has a thread in the hard rock mining section in which he Ids different rocks. Give a try there. He's a goelogist and knows his stuff from what I've seen.

I am no rock hound, but looks like what I always call peacock pyrite. Doesn't appear to be any free milling gold, so crushing and panning would be needed to separate any values. There does appear to be a nice stringer of quartz through the middle though:icon_thumleft: Recovering gold from sulfides is more difficult and usually more costly. Dude you need Santa to bring you a Gold Bug Pro or GMT so you can only take home the samples that have gold. Keep it up and someday you will run into a dandy. Your energy and lust for finding a big piece is unmatched on this board.... Good health and good hunting, and Merry Christmas...

hey so pyrite tends to be a darker looking gold color. makes a big difference between camera flash and being outside with natural lighting to get a better look at it. try putting a photo from outside without light getting on it. take your specimen and smash it on a giant boulder, if you think its gold and worried about losing some this way put a tarp around it. break it as much as possible even if you neeed a sledge hammer. then if you have a steel container large enough get something to break it up inside and pann the material and you will know. som pics it looks like it like the one im replying to but you wont know unless you get us a close up with a magnifier or break it up and pan i

it's guys like you who motivate me and keep the gold dream alive for the future generations. It's all about learning from the legends. Thanks

you are so right I think my flash and the dark room are making a lot of my photos tend to look different then what I'm seeing. I will try all suggestions and give you an update. Thanks brotha

the gold you are seeing is likly pyrite, take a chisel and chip a piece off, scratch it across unglazed ceramic tile, the back side, gold will leave a gold streak, pyrite will leave a black streak, or take a punch and see if the gold colored stuff dents, or chips, dents its gold, ships its pyrite, my opinion is if that is gold that ore is fabulously rich!

here u go. I got a bunch of unglazed blue pool tile that works well. It's def not a black scratch and it does not crumble or shatter when pressed with knife it's soft

the pics not real clear ,is that gold streak?!starting to get interesting man!can you get some acid, hydro chl. this is wicked stuff use gloves, apply with squirt bottle to your scratches, gold will not dis appear, most all else will.esspecialy iron mins like pyrite,.

yes sir that's a gold streak right there. I clean pools so I use hcl every day. I thought it was nitric acid this used to test gold? But I will do a test and update thanks man

I don't know what area you are in, but you do bring home some highly mineralized samples. Keep at it and you will run into one. And you are correct, it is nitric acid:icon_santa: Start saving your change and hit the pawn shops, and look for a gold bug pro or a gmt, once you find gold there will be no need for a test kit. Always remember, gold has a natural shine and luster, it does not need light to refract to shine. Most pretenders lose their shine without direct light.

Or bring it by my place. I got a Pro right here.

hydro chl eats pyrite and most iron mins, and easier to get,if it desolves with hydro no need for anything more wicked ,mystery solved.

that is a chunk of copper ore...copper, gold, silver, lead, zinc....is the usal combination in Arizona...the gold color is iron pyrite...the rainbows are the copper...the rest is squished together...

cant imagine why you found that in anthem...mineralization is a bit north and west of there...
