I went today and saw a new gravel bar in the creek. I took a little jump from the bank to make it and sank to my hips. It was scattered gravel with sand underneath. Lesson learned. I was already wet so I just walked through the water from then on. It was 51 degrees today and yes the water was cold but I had fun anyway. Hope everyone else is having good luck, rock.

I have been in that same kind of gravel, its kind of a strange feeling to sink that fast. you feel like you are being eaten. nice finds

Great hunt haha I bet that water was cold you must b a polar bear haha

I was so happy to finally find a piece of worked flint in that spot. I find so much pottery in that area I have nicknamed it "Pottery Point"

Haha that's always good pottery with some points make a pretty frame ;)

#8 is a piece of stone bowl. I didnt get a good pic of the flat side of it.

I bet the heavier items like flint are below the sand in that spot.. Have you probed below the surface to feel if there's a gravel layer below?

In my area when there is high water the sand will pile up in deep holes and retains a lot of water, if you step in at the right spot you may never be seen again. A close friend of mine lost his wife and 7 yr old son on a family outing on a creek, he said they were walking in 2 inch's of water, then right in front of his eyes they went under the sand, he almost went under himself trying to get to them. I always carry a stick to test my steps in every creek, I myself have gone chest deep in this stuff and if not for a buddy I would have had trouble getting out. Just be safe:icon_thumleft:

No joke Rack you are right on there the silt build up where the creeks meet the rivers in some spots is dangerous for sure thanks for bringing that up to everyone HH

Water is to cold rite now but in the summer I will try it. The flint piece was rite on the water line. We are getting more rain this week. If the rain stops Im sure to find some good pieces towards the middle.
