This was found in Oklahoma in an old scrap pile. The finder believes it to be a splitting wedge, but I'm not so sure.
The pol appears to be curved and the sides appear to be cast with a flange. The shape doesn't appear to be from pounding with a sledge, unless it's just an illusion of the photo.
Appreciate any insights! image.jpeg

It's a wedge for felling a tree I think

sent from my computer by frantically poking at the keyboard with a single finger

There are many different tools that Blacksmiths used to use and make, but, I'm going to guess that one was for taking a tire off of the rim, and my hubby would love to have it! He does this all the time here, the old fashioned way...

Without seeing the sides my moneys on a homebuilt felling wedge or a splitting wedge. From back in the ain't no such thing as Ace Hardware but we got George with an anvil down the road days!

Interesting! Can you point me to a picture of one? Has your husband seen this before?
Looks factory, rather than homemade. The edges are even and concentric and doesn't have the hand forged look.

I would say it's just work peened. The back of my splitting maul looks like that from being hit with a sledge.
