Dump2.jpg

This is what I found on my road, dumped last night. I found some canceled checks & did a "find a person search" with not much luck other than the person(s) lived in TX. Today, after the deputy took pics and did a report, I kinda glanced back through the stuff & found more canceled checks with another name. Came home and did another search and bingo!! I doubled checked in the phone book & the number matched to a lady living in a town about 8 miles away. I called the number, the lady who answered was the mother of the name on the checks, she stated that was her daughter's name. I explained what I had found and she told me the names on the other checks were hers and her husband. Found out he died 2 years ago of cancer and she moved here to be with her daughter. When I described some of the contents thrown out, she said those things were in a storage warehouse. About an hour later she, her daughter & grandson came to pick up their stuff, she called me when they reached the area. When I got down there, the daughter was sitting on the ground crying, saying "these were my mom & dad's belongings, how can people do such a thing?" There were older watches, gems, crystal & rock collection, owl collection, old fishing lures, to name a few & a lot of paperwork. What you see in the picture of the empty medicine bottles, is what the deputy took pictures of cause of the type of prescription used for cancer patients, but that same drug is a biggie for dopers.

Before the owners came out, they had stopped by the storage unit to find out it was broken into and more stuff were missing. What the robbers dumped was no value to them. They offered to give me some money for calling them, but I didn't accept it. But, I did get some very nice hugs. These items were sentimental and could not be replaced.

I did get a description of the vehicle and the boys in it, so I hope that helps the police investigation.

What a story, I thought for sure the people you called would have been responsible for the dumping, never giving a thought that the items were stolen and dumped. Good work RR!!

notify the police. The reason being is I paid someone to haul off garbage for me a few years ago. They hauled it off alright right alongside a country road. The police notified me that I would have to pay a fine and after talking to them and explaining that I was not the one who did it but that I would go and collect it if they please did not fine me they agreed. The police should fine them for this.

wow that stinks that they lost all that stuff glad to see you found the owners. hopefully the thief or thiefs get what they earned .

well wtg anyway

Good going RR, The police need to be called, the place I work, even though we take donations, someone dumped things that looked like a dozer had hit them. But the kid in family had written his name on the dresser, and school papers from another kid.
I am so happy that you were able to help this family get these precious items back. That is one of the greatest feelings ever!

Good work. Proud of ya'.

You shoulda' said no thanks on the money, but I'd like to detect your yard. ;)

Way to go girl! I really dislike thieves, and litter bugs. But to just throw someones precious possesions along side of the road? I hope all those medicine bottles were empty when they stole them? Otherwise the victims could be in big trouble. :-\ Let us know what you hear.

It was an ugly find, but you did the right thing all the way around. :)

I once held a guy at gun point and made him pick up a bunch of sacks of trash he threw out on the highway. Please do not try this at home.

RR...that was really nice of you to work with those folks. If you are like me you were initially infuriated. Hopefully between you and the family the scalywags will be brought to justice......how about 300 days of community service picking up trash along the highways? ::)

This story has a bittersweet taste, huh.

It's really good to see that your efforts resulted in those folks getting their sentimental items back. Feeling came full circle when I read how the one lady cried at finding that treasure.

Thanks for sharing such a great story. It's too bad the bozos responsible are still breathing good air! Maybe they'll get what's coming to them in the fullness of time.

I can empathize with these folks. I can only imagine if my Dad's old fishing lures had been ripped off and dumped. It is a miracle that you were there--not to pillage--but to do the right thing. By your efforts these folks, although robbed, benefited greatly.

You deserve all the hugs you got and THEN some! Again, thanks for sharing this story. It's good to know that I share a hobby with folks like you.

Great job on finding the owners. I agree with the others since the police have become involved. Call them and let them know the story so these people may get back what else was stolen if they are caught. I hope they are caught so that a B&E charge is also thrown at them. Slime like these belong behind bars. Better yet, working in a chain gang cleaning up the side of the roads of all trash.
Great Work and HH the treasure gods will reward you handsomely.

RR, great job in tracking down the owners and helping them reclaim what was left of their belongings! Just think what would have happened if you hadn't taken the time to do some research.

RR,
Fantastic job tracking down the owner. I hope those guys get what they deserve. I feel for that family.

From what loked like someone just dumping garbage turns out to be theft...sad about that family and good for you to take the time and effort to get ahold of these people and I sure hope they catch the scum that broke it, robbed, then littered the "worthless" junk to them!!

Great job River Rat! This thread is AWESOME but infuriating to think that something like that happened to that nice lady and her daughter. You never know anymore. Makes you wonder though if that was a random incident or if the guys who did it KNEW what was in that storage unit..... Either way you did a great job at hunting down the people.

Excellent Job RR and God Bless Ya.....
