I think this is a perfect example of a natural stone either pretending to be an artifact or a natural stone picked up and used in the state it was found in.....

and I'll tell you why...

first of all, notice the polish is ALL over, not just the basin part or the outside but smooth with a river polish ALL over. Next, notice the natural crack on the bottom....chances are that piece that broke off was a similar crack and tumbling in the river knocked it off....and of course notice how the rough bottom is actually quite very "smooth"....from years of being in the river....

You should see the beaches here..just littered with naturally shaped stones you could pretend were something.

...watch the listing and see if it sells......maybe you can go into business!

If you look closely at that piece with the "zoom" function it actually looks like some peck marks inside the divot. Not saying it's actually an artifact, but that one is a as close as you'll get to an either/nor piece.

The seller is probably someone who knaps for money and sells fakes. Some of his points don't look authentic looking at the flaking

I aint saying nothing bout nothing but look at the similar patina on all his agate points...and notice also how the points seem to be from the same agate.....

Good eyes, unclemac,

Just try researching that "provenence."

"Provenence: Ex Virgel Devine collection. Virgel collected from the 1950's to late 1960's, & was a longtime Oregon Archeological Society member. His collection was assembled from important sites at The Dalles, Sauvies Island, & areas near Ft Rock., Or.. This Bowl was found at the Decker Site near Warren Ore.."
