I FOUND THIS NEAR CHEROKEE NORTH CAROLINA IN A RIVER BED ATOP A MOUNTAIN WHERE I STAYED. IT IS HEAVY FOR ITS SIZE AND IS GLITTERY, TO A POINT WHERE YOUR HANDS SHIMMER AFTER HOLDING IT. IT SEEMS TO HAVE UN-NATURAL PATTERN OF RAISED SOMETHING. ALMOST LIKE A WRAPPING OR TIE DOWN THAT IS NOW PART OF THE ROCK.

I does have an appearance of being worked/chipped. It's hard to make out. Could possibly be a crude hand axe / multi purpose tool or something. I would venture a guess of it being used to get to outcroppings of chert, flint, or quartz from the mountain. Or you would have to have something like this to dig with so you can level ground or channel rain water.

Doesn't look worked to me, and if it makes your hands shimmer, that sounds like micaceous, a metamorphic family not known for its structural strength. It commonly has those sort of striations.

Didn't catch the part of the stone deteriorating easily and attaching to your hand. I'm with you bum luck. Seems like it's just a very weak and erosive material with no strength for being a tool.
