North Carolina lawmakers pass bill to let gun owners carry weapons in bars

Lawmakers in North Carolina passed on Tuesday expanded rights for concealed carry permit holders, making it legal for gun owners to bring their weapons into bars and restaurants and other public areas previously prohibited.

Republican Gov. Pat McCrory is expected to sign it into law within the next few days, The Associated Press reported.

SPECIAL COVERAGE: Second Amendment and Gun Control
Currently, gun owners in North Carolina aren’t allowed to carry weapons into any establishment that serves alcohol. The new bill gives permitted holders the legal authority to bring guns into those facilities, so long as the owner doesn’t object, AP reported.

The bill also gives gun owners the ability to bring their concealed weapons onto playgrounds and other public places of recreation, AP reported.

Pat, it was against the law there to carry a firearm in a restaurant that served alcohol as in say outback, red lobster and so on.

Also remember not anyone can carry into. you have to be a CWL holder, on average if you check stats they are the most responsible of all citizens. Do a search of CWL holders and see how many have been arrested..

In Fla you can carry in any restaurant as long as bar is separate from eating area by a rope or any kind of separation plants etc...

I carry in any restaurant I am in...

I am with you Pat. And I believe the law says that you cannot be drinking and especially not drunk while you are carrying. Now, as Concealed carry guy myself you will find that we are more law abiding than anyone else as far as weapons go. Or we would not go through that type of scrutiny.

I would feel much safer knowing that responsible, gun owning people are at that bar.

In Ohio we already have that. I can walk over to the Dirty Dog Saloon carrying my pistol and have a burger, so long as I don't order a beer to go with it. In MI there was a modifier in that the restaurant couldn't have more than half of it's sales coming from alcohol sales. So basically Ruby Tuesdays and TGI Fridays were fine, the local dive bar, not allowed.

Me too, which is why I Volunteered the info, and TH volunteered his.

And THAT, is the numero uno reason I don't hang out in bars, er, anymore!
Well, that, and I don't hablo the same language as most, in my neighborhood now.
and I got no patience, anymore, for it........
