I'm looking for some information as to the value on Herkimer Diamonds
and some of the unrelated finds I have from North Carolina. The larger
stones including the red one are larger than a nickel in size and about two
thirds as tall. Just curious... Some of the small ones I am sure are rubies.
The purple crystal I'm not sure where I got it from.
I know the image is not the best....

Thanks,

Pepper

Here's a link for Herkimer Diamonds.... http://www.herkimerdiamond.com/

I could be wrong ... but that big red one looks almost like Jasper to me. I really can't tell in the photo. I found alot of Jasper at the Crator of Diamonds and it now has become one of my favorite stones...have a really big one!! They come in various colors too!

The one that I believe is purple crystal on the far right, if that is the one you are speaking of....could either be purple crystal or maybe part of amytheist (spelling?).

We found lots of crystal of various shades in color, but not purple. I like that purple one!

As far as diamonds go...well, if I found any...couldn't tell you...a few of the stones we found I am taking into the jeweler (he's a diamondtologist .. if that is how you spell it). They probably will turn out to be crystal though, that's my luck.

You can take them to a jeweler. Good luck! Hope you got some ruby and diamonds.

Herkimer "Diamonds" are not really diamonds. Like most rocks that are made into jewelry or decorative items, it depends on what the buyer is looking for. Some value clarity, some color, some like the occlusions and veins because it gives the stone character.

Look at some metaphysical/New Age websites to see what they are selling their crystals for. That's another market to tap into.

I used to chip away at the rocks there at the Herkimer Diamond Mines... been there like three times when I lived in Upstate NY.

It was fun, and rewarding... I brought home all kinds of little chrystals! Althought not real 'diamonds" they are wonderful to find and mine... a great way to spend the day!

Very cool.
