I am currently majoring in Geology and I am in a class that plans on taking a four to five day field trip to southern (and more eastern) North Carolina and North Georgia. The goal is to view Metamorphic rock outcrops in the field. Now my professors already have us doing research on places like Winding Stair Gap, Chunky Gal, and Ocoee Gorge, and I am sure they have a few places in mind themselves, but I would be greatly appreciative if anyone could give suggestions for really good outcrops to view. I don't believe there will anytime for major hiking, but a little would be fine. Basically, I am one of two undergraduates in a graduate class and I would like to be able to bring something to the table. One final note, if someone knew of a place to see really good garnet, that would be great because one of the Grad students is from the Netherlands and that is his field of research. I appreciate any and all help and look forward to hearing from you all.
