Hi,

I have an antique set of Noritake up for sale and a woman contacted me with this question. Why do they have different numbers on the backstamps.
The china looks identical (unless I'm missing something).
Both have the Noritake wreath.
Both say Greenbriar
My set has the number 4024
Her mother's set has the number 4730

Can anyone explain the number difference for the identical pattern?
Many thanks. noritake 4730.jpgnoritake 4730a.jpgNoritake Greenbrier 2042 8 Piece Service treasurenet.jpgnoritake backstamp 1933 greenbrier 2042.jpg

Than you.

It's probably like a coded serial number. There would be a different number every day/batch, etc. That would mean that yours is older.

4024 is circa 1933 & 4730 is circa 1949.

Pre war vs post war? Just a guess... :dontknow:

A lot of things changed in Japan post WWII.

They are a little bit different:

In what way do you think they are different?
Thanks everyone for your input.

Did you look at the picture I posted of the two patterns side-by-side? Look at the lower red squares in each pic (magnified portions). You should see the difference.

The one on the right has an extra bit of red in the pattern. It is very subtle, but still different and apparently enough to warrant a different pattern number.

Yes, I did look at the photos :)
However, when I went to replacements, I misspelled the pattern... duh.
Thanks again.
