Noob wanting to know if coil covers are a must have. pros / cons?

I use one out in the desert where I am always banging and scrubbing on rocks and gravel,, but most any where else there is no need for one unless you want your coil bottom to look new forever and with a cover on you cant see it anyway.
As for depth, you will never notice any difference with or without. But they are very cheap so each to their own,,,,, can cause trouble if not siliconed to keep out dirt, black sand and moisture,

Good luck in your hunts !!

Should I go with these or is it just a gimmick option for coils? Will I sacrifice depth / detection if I use coil covers? Thanks for the outlook.

Chad.
Mostly a gimmick. I don't like coil covers because black sand and other material can and do get under the covers, and this CAN cause a sacrifice of depth/accuracy. Of course, if you don't mind prying off the cover after every search, and carefully cleaning and drying your coil, then I guess this is a no issue. :tongue3:

If you hunt mostly grassy or stubble fields, then by all means, go with a solid cover, especially if your coil is the "spider" type. I find that those holes get hung up on stubble, and create extra drag in the grass. JMHO.....NGE

Hello,

These are a must for me and I see no reason why they should not be for everyone else. You can get a scratch on your coil once then that scratch can get deeper by something else hitting it over and over. Then you get hole the hole can leak water into it and fry your machine.

Keep @ it and HH!!
