I found this disc shaped glass item while detecting an old homesite. It has around the edge "Pat'd Jan 5 75", "Pat'd Apr 25 82", and something too worn to read, but definitely NOT Pat'd and the date "June 5 77". It does not look like 20th century '70s or '80s to me. I checked most of the images on the US patent website for those days, but no hits so far.

Any help is appreciated.

Neil, it appears to be similar to a Putnam or Lightning cover groove cannin jar lid.
One of the best known Lightning-type variations is the closure found on canning jars (pictured below). Though the term "Lightning" was used by de Quillfeldt in reference to the sealing method, its application and use on fruit jars gave rise to the actual name of the Lightning fruit jar and the popularity of the term for the closure. The sealing surface for the Lightning closure on fruit jars was the shelf that the lower edge of the lid sat on; a rubber gasket was placed between that shelf and the bottom surface of the glass lid which when the closure is tightened forming a seal.

Stoney56 nailed it!! Good job.

That's a nice bit of glass you found. There's got to be silver coins in an area that yields a piece of glass from that timeframe. Good luck.

Mom used some of those type jars about 50 years ago to can veggies.I believe there are a number of those jars still in their basement.

I do not know if the rubber gasket rings are still availible.
