Noise from control box of ace 250

The sound is close to ultrasonic. It appears to be coming from the board and not the speaker. As many circuit boards as I have dealt with in my life, I have heard some that hum loudly and many with a faint high pitch. To me it's normal for low voltage electronics.

Mine sounds silent to me, but I have a high frequency hearing loss so it might be humming away! ::) I would guess if it's anything it might be a preset threshold setting. My 2500 has an adjustable threshold setting. It is set properly when you can just barely hear it. Does it still come through with the headphones plugged in? Since just about everyone hears it except me I think it's probably normal unless it's so loud it becomes annoying. Did anyone email Garrett to see what they had to say about it? Monty
A slight change of subject Monty do you miss targets because of your high frequency hearing loss? I can only hear with my left ear, and if I take my grandkids out with me they sometimes point out I have missed a signal? Even though I have ear phones on, the kids young ears pick up every sound.

I hear high pitch very well, I hear mine "whine" while detecting and the pitch picks up over deep targets that are too deep to make it beep, it sounds just like pinpoint mode to me. I hunt in quiet out of the way places you would not hear it at the beach. I have actually found deep targets this way using pinpoint mode to hone in on them after hearing the whine pitch change never getting a beep. pinpoint goes deeper than any search mode on the ace and I think so does the whine-give it a try if you can hear it I use it as a tool in my arsenal, I need all the help I can get. I wish it was louder! PS my deep target was the copper jacket off a deer rifle bullet fragmented at 9" or so.

Wow no comments in a week, I am not kidding, really try an air test from a foot away. I am not nuts...right?

When the power is on, the 250 emits what I would describe as a high frequency whine. Not a buzz, but a whine like when you begin to get too close to a speaker while holding a mic
Yes, mine also has a high pitch whine, almost like microphone feedback. I hope it doesnt start annoying me now that I know its there. :D

I will try this next time I am in a very quiet area.

I see this topic is sort of old, but, fwiw, the noise you are hearing is common in many electronic devices. What you are hearing is the switching power supply section of the detectors circuitry. Due to manufacturing tolerances, some units may make more noise than others, some may not make any sound.

Mine does it. It's not distracting, though. Easy to ignore. I'm used to it with my tinnitus anyway.
