I found this earlier today in Waldo New Mexico. i was thinking it was a miner tag, but not for sure. i know most miner tags were brass and had numbers on it. this in has a "J" and hole is not on top, but towards the middle. i appreciate any help in figuring this out. this is the only thing i found besides a couple of snakes. ;D it is roughly about the size of a us quarter maybe a tad smaller.

Are you sure its a J and not a U with a part of it rusted off? What does the other side look like. It almost looks like something that would be nailed to a pole to spell out something. Search that same area over and maybe you'll find some other letters. Swiz

It is a embossed "J" ( sorry scanner didnt do real well) the back is flat. about as thick as a penny. this is the only one that i found out there. it is close to an old railroad line though. it might be from a train, not real sure. i thought it was neat lil find. :) even if i have no idea what it is.
