this is one of those things i'd think would never be solved and then some one nails it.
so you still got hope.

what material is it or did some one say. metal?

May and Feb could be part of the patent dates.
Is that leather?

It is metal. Not sure what kind, but my detector picked it up.

If you look at the image with the quarter or the one I have in my hand the size of the artifact seems to small to be a seat.

I've dug brass shoe insoles that were made from 2 or 3 pieces of brass. They had rivets holding the peices together. The piece you have reminds me of those. I'm not 100% sure. I'll see if I can find one of them I've dug an post a pic. Those things look like they would be as uncomfortable as heck.

I'll see what I can do. I've got buckets and boxes of stuff in my barn and I know there's a few of those insoles out there somewhere. I'll look tomorrow

I haven't been able to find any I've dug. Insole might not be the right word though. It's an arch support. I found one on eaby and it's kind of hard to see the metal part with the leather still on it but might give you an idea.I'm sorry I couldn't find mine. I've really got tons of stuff in my barn that I've dug over the years. Most of it really isn't worth anything but to cool to throw away. I'll keep this bookmarked and if I come across mine will post a pic.
the ebay auction is Vintage-Dr. Scholl's (1908) Men's Arch Supports

The third word is longer than the others.

Buchrucker, (1897-1985) metalworker of copper/brass in Bauhaus style during the 1930s in Germany is all I have. http://www.oldcopper.org/Marks A-B.htm http://oldcopper.org/Marks br-bz.htm

Is there any space above the MA and FE where patented could have been? I wish we could see another pic of the partial letters after FE especially. It doesnt look as if a B will match.

I took a couple of pictures of the lettering and I am convinced I see the first half of a B after FE and after the MA I see the start of a Y. :dontknow:

You have seem to link the lettering and name of the metal worker. :icon_thumleft: I guess we can only tell so much because of the missing other half. :dontknow:
Nice research Bigcy. :hello2:

Here is Dr Scholls metal foot pads. I wonder if the metal plate came from Buchrucker? Im just guessing, trying to fit the letters. The next step may be to search patents. maybe German patents, but we dont have much to go on unless vayank has letters on his piece.
