The purple glass is called Manganese glass.

The big glass looks to thick to be a lantern or light globe. Glass at that thickness I am gonna say was used as insulation for something. :icon_scratch: Electrical, automotive, lightning arrestor, lightning rod insulator, wall tube bushing, etc.? Manganese was used in glass as a decolorizing agent between 1880-1914. It is the manganese that turns purple when exposed to the sun.

Does the top pic have any sharp edges?

Is the smaller glass piece open on both sides?

Are there any visible seams on either piece?

Im looking in my glass book and have found several examples of the type of lip on the Manganese but cannot find one with that cut off bottom. Could it have been professionaly cut and the sharp edge sanded?

With the purple glass and no seam would date it late 1800's but you already knew that.

The glass tube looks like what the dentist use to use to deaden my teeth. Monty
