Re: No idea.

Once straightened out......it sort of reminds me of a "Sighting Device"....possibly something to do with a Transit or Sextant. Just a wag. :dontknow:

Re: No idea.

The twisted iron piece appears to have come out at 90 degrees. I was thinking window related, but its kinda small.

Re: No idea.

Just bent it and broke it, but we get a better idea of the shape. ::)

tag.

I get these all the time, never with the iron, & normally in bits due the plough. I chuck them all, but just wonder if someone with ID it :icon_thumright:

I don't have the slightest idea what that thing is but next time you want to straighten brass try boiling it in water for a while then pull it out and straighten it. You may have to straighten it a bit at a time and put it back in the water a few times. I've straightened all kind of things like that including civil war buckles. It might leave a bit of a discoloration where you bent it but at least it won't be broken . You just have to be a bit patient and careful.

Looks to me like a glide/hinge for a chest. The metal spike is mounted into the wood case and brass is screwed into the top. Just a guess.

Yes I think thats it. Chest or tool box. Maybe even a sewing machine or old school desk. I couldnt place it but it looked familiar. Its a stop so you cant open it too far.
