I hit the area around the little league baseball field 2 minutes from my house. I brought along my girlfriend, DiggerBee. I had my V3i and she had her AT Pro. This is my spot I go to when I just have an hour or so, and it was her first time there. The ball field is also next to an 1859 school house, and I seem to find the clad that people drop around the concession stand and also some really old stuff! No old coins yet, but other old stuff.
I knew it was going to be a good outing when I hit a 1941 wheatie about 2 minutes in. I was there maybe about an hour and a half. I ended up with some clad, a silver heart earing with diamonds (I am assuming it is costume), an old thimble, and half of, what I think(?), is an old cigarette case from Bugler Tobacco about 11" down! I had to dig a plug inside my hole I dug!
A funny one today was when DiggerBee hit a target about 4" down. She slowly dug down and hit the top of a mason jar lid. She pulled part of the lid off and out the hole. It was starting to deteriorate. She then put her ProPointer back in the hole and it went nuts again. I told her 'I bet it is the rest of the lid that got torn away'. Sure enough she slowly dug and pulled out the ring of the lid to go with the disc part she already pulled out. She then put the ProPointer back in the hold and it went nuts again!.....
She said "what could that be?"
I asked "that jar lid was lying flat right?"
She replied "yes".
I asked "you what is under that lid then right?"
She asked "what?"
I stated "the rest of the jar!"
She said "so, what does that mean?"
I said "glass doesn't sound off so it's probably filled with old coins ! ! !"
I never saw her dig that fast! Unfortunately, the lid was with other metal junk that was apparently buried there. No secret buried coin jar of gold eagles!
My next hunt is Friday, somewhere around Pittsburgh, PA ..........
