No dime slam...no wheaties...no injuns'...but I'll take 11 Silver ANY day.

What a sweet day of hunting thanks to a couple of buddies.
Met up with Kennon and Darrell at a podunk town a few miles away. The Yeti has been swamped with work...so he wasn't able to go.

Kennon found us the site...and ol' "Heavy D" (swamp thing) was able to get permission for us.

The lady who owned the property was very nice and got me to within a few feet of the spots we wanted to be. :icon_thumleft:
She also told us that only one other group had hunted the site...at least with permission anyway...and that was back when she first obtained the property. :headbang:

Good thing was that this little town festival was in full swing from the late 50's to late 60's....so I knew there should be silver here. To me...silver is SILVER. I don't care how old it is. :icon_thumleft:

Kennon and Darrell worked an area where a little concession stand once stood... while I concentrated on the tiny carnival area. I was told exactly where the booth was where people pitched dimes at glasses...dishes...etc...and if the dime stayed in the dish or glass...you won it. at the carnival. :headbang:

We pounded the snot out of this place for nearly 9 hours ;D...never even taking a break for lunch.

What was really cool was that the nice lady even brought us out some drinks and offered us some rhubarb pie. :icon_thumleft:
I don't do rhubarb pie 8)...but it nearly saved Darrells life. :laughing7:
He probably hasn't gone 9 hours without food since the first grade. ;D :laughing9: Good lord...I've never seen anyone eat that fast. :laughing7: :notworthy:
The lady didn't even know what to say...and all she could muster up was...."your friend sure likes the pie" ;D...and gave "Heavy D" a big smile.

We all had a great day and Kennon found the only silver quarter...a 1957. He also got 3 silver dimes and a bunch of 60's clad.
"Heavy D" ended up with 5 silver dimes...a few memorial cents...and some clad.

I ended up with 11 silver which ties my record for a day. :headbang:
I got 8 Roosies...3 mercs...a few late 60's clad dimes...a mangled flat ring...and more than a few deeeeep memorial cents.
Most of the silver came out of the ground slick and shiny....but the clad dimes...well...you can see how they came out :D

All the coins I dug were in the 8" range to as deep as 10"...including the memorials and clad dimes...so I had NO choice but to dig them. ::)
I honestly feel I knew the memorials were going to be memorials...but no way I leave them in the ground when they are 3/4 down the depth meter. I was hitting silver at the same depth so I had to check them out. :occasion14:

Same with the clad dimes....NO way I'm not digging that sweet sound when it shows about 8" on the depth meter. ;D

Did I feel they were probably clad before I dug them?....YEP....'cause they were hollow high pitched hits with not much "warble" to them ...but I had to try them anyway. ;D
Thanks for viewing and good luck on your next hunt :angel7:

Greetings Bryce ! What a fun day you guys had - I'd have chomped on some of that

rhubarb pie ! 11 silvers is monster ! I don't believe I've had an 11 silver month - much

less day . Continued success (and fun!) Argentium.

Great hunt man! I love the descrIption of the deepies, and how you can recognize the subtle differences at that depth, especially that "warble" that usually means silver. I love that, depending where you are, you can almost guess the years of wheats depending on tone, as early wheats ring just a shade lower. You're right though: at that depth you have to dig, regardless, and hope you're wrong. Great silver count; keep up the good work!

Thanks CJH. It was one of those once in a lifetime hunts where silver was there if you were patient. It was all about the info and location the kind old lady gave me. Once I heard "dime pitch"....I was foaming at the mouth. ;D

11 silver and no wheats? c'mon. ;D you think it's becuase they pitched the dimes at the bottles? you did find memorials. :icon_scratch:

WOW ~ that's a nice pile of silver dimes man! CONGRAT'S!!!

Re: No dime slam...no wheaties...no injuns'...but I'll take 11 Silver ANY day.

Way to go Bryce. But seriously, no Injuns? ??? It's not a Bryce post without an Injun. I know you dig more silver than a person has a right to, but you always seem to find indians too. I guess at a place that saw most of its activity in the 50's and 60's it would be a bit hard to find one. But you certainly made up for it with all those dimes.

8-10", man those coins sink fast out your way, huh?

As for the pie, I would have passed on it too.

Congrats on a killer silver day and another great post...
