I found this about 200 yards from an old plantation next to what was a roadbed at time. Any ideas or thoughts would be much appreciated!

It looks like a broken piece off of a water fountain/bird bath since it has a flower type shape and is embossed on the under side. Interesting find Breezie
I was thinking maybe a candle stick or something similar because of its size and if you held the long end in your hand as a handle, the "cup" would face upward to possible hold the melted wax. But your idea sounds good too! Thanks for the input!
The outer cup/flower pedals look like a candle holder, but with the iron rod in the center, a candle wouldn't work. Since the iron rod appears to be broken, the flower/cup could have been part of some type of sconce or candelabra similar to this one.

Now I believe your onto something Breezie! Then all of the ornamental details would easily be seen when looking up at it! The inside surface has really no detail which would probably be for easier wax removal. Thanks guys n gals!
You may have misunderstood my 2nd post. I don't think the cup part is a candle holder because it has an iron rod in the center, which would prevent it from holding a candle. Your item probably came off of a bird bath, fountain, sconce, or the 'decorative part' of a candelabra. Breezie
