I have no clue what this thing is, but it has a layer of wood, then metal, then wire mesh.? Its the size of a pocket knife, which was what i thought it was at first.? It has a srew end on one side.

That thing looks like a very old old old stabilizer for a bow. It screws in the the front of the bow below the handle to help balance to bow while shooting,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,or maybe not.... check out this like......

Does look like a old bow stabalizer. When were bow stabalizeres first made?

It is an old but not rare shotgun bore cleaner, insert into barrel and rotate the screw to expand the screen against the inside of the barrel then shove through a nd back. scrubs rust and crap from a barrel that was abused. Bob the gunsmth.

Woods & Bottle Dumps, never detected a really old yard yet. So everything i have found is from woods. I go out in the woods every day after school. I posted the stuff i found today in the "todays finds" section, check it out.
