Hi all!

I went back to the location where I found the NJ state copper. I went low and slow all around that area to make sure that I was hearing everything. I had a super faint signal, 10" down. I probably dug about a foot down, and out popped my second NJ state copper. This one is not in as good condition as the first, but I was able to see the horse head and shield after rinsing with water. I took pictures of the two coins next to each other for comparison. Actually, in this picture, you can start to make out the date on the coin that I found yesterday. It looks like 1787, even though it looks like 1789 (I don't think that's a viable date).

I also found what I believe to be a bullet. It's heavy (lead) and bullet shaped (lol). I took a picture of that against a ruler. Would love people's opinion of that.

I found a couple buckles. One is plated copper, but I believe that the big one is silver. Is that possible? Were silver buckles produced back in the day? It came out of the ground exactly as pictured, and only improved after a rinsing with warm water and soap. Thoughts?

Finally, I found an ingot of some sort. It's not that big, but boy it weighs a lot. 138 g. I was curious if anyone had thoughts about this one. Dimensions are 1"x0.5"x2.5". I'm completely stumped on this one. I'm assuming it's lead, but would love input!

Hope to hear from you!

Kevin

Wow, congrats on your second NJ copper!! I'll drop you a PM re the Verdi-Care which will seal those coppers and reveal some more detail. The buckles are horse tack and the bullet I believe is known as a one-ringer but I'm not a bullet guy...I'm sure someone else will chime in.

Garrett cool finds you have an the piece of lead bar also, vanzutphen

Cool! Thanks sutphin! I was pretty sure that it was lead, but just want to make sure!

By the surface I'm seeing , I would guess the buckle is not silver (a wash or plate over brass perhaps ) Work the surface with a mild
abrasive (baking soda or extra fine steel wool ) and show us the results - Nice finds

Agree with Argentium. A little Aluminum Jelly will clean up that plated buckle nicely!

The NJ you found first looks like a 1787 Maris 39-a variety (Rarity 2-Common) The one you found today appears to be the 1787 Maris 46-e variety(Rarity 1-Very Common) Could you please PM me with the county found in assuming NJ is the state. Thanks The 39-a is the 19th one reported found in the survey and the 46-e would be the 37th reported found....
