Hey everyone! Really excited! Ventured out for an evening hunt beachside tonight, and the Ace 250 went bonkers over this little piece! It's a locket of some sort, looks like there was a diamond in the center at some point but there isn't anymore, the more I gently clean it, the more it looks like solid gold! I'm new at this so if anyone can tell me how to clean it, I'd greatly appreciate it, I can barely make out a marking description on the back side. Looks like a partial "k" so far I've only soaked it in Luke warm dish soap and rubbed it gently with baking soda, it's helped but not tremendously. Tips for the newbie who may have found her first gold?! Pretty please!!!!!! Size is about that of a dime. Thank you :)

Hmm....Take a look at it under a 10 or 20 times magnification and see if you can tell if the brown is on top of the gold or the other way around. The pics are kinda small but it looks like gold plate over copper to me and the brown areas are where the gold plating is missing.
When I find gold in water it comes out nice...but i'm land locked and have only found stuff in fresh water.

However.....I HOPE I"M WRONG!! Take a looksee at the area where the K is and see if you can make out anything like 14k or 10k or 12k gold filled.....etc.

Good luck to you! If it's not gold, keep at it and you'll get some. if it IS gold, Keep at it and get some more. HH

I know you don't want to hear this, but it doesn't LOOK like solid gold, more likely gold plated copper.
And if your Ace was giving a BIG signal on it, that also points to it being plated. (My ace 250 would SCREAM on smaller plated copper jewelry, and not so much on real gold.)

That style is VERY common as far as pendants go, (google image search "heart lock pendant") and you'll see what I mean.

The only real way to tell though is to look for markings.

Not really looking like solid gold to me from what I can tell from the pics, but I have been known to be wrong before.I got my fingers crossed for ya.Good luck & happy hunting..................................

Thanks everyone. Is there any input on how to get it clean if it is plated copper to get a better look at it?

That's good advice! I'm getting a magnifying glass today but I think you're all right, it didn't clean up anymore over night, from what I've read gold cleans up fairly easily? I'm learning so much from you guys, I appreciate your time :) thank you
