Nickel silver spoon

I found this spoon in the back yard of an old farm house, near a civil war era train depot. For a while I thought it had Chinese characters on the back, but then I looked more closely and realized it says "nickel silver". I don't see any other marks on it. Could anyone help me find out how old it is?
