Howdy Folks. I dug an unusual buckle Sunday with no markings. I've never seen one like it. Anyone have any ideas as to time period or usage? If it's a cool civil war relic I'd hate to toss it aside as some common farmer stuff. He hee. Thanks for any suggestions.

Cool find, congrats!!!

Thanks mate. I agree. I am thinking it could possibly be some type of military application with it's unique design but, no way to substantiate my hunches. Hmmm? A little help here experts!

I think your shield piece is also half of a sash buckle, and probably looked like this "mock-up" made from your photo:

Thanks for your efforts and suggestions my sage and wise friend. I was thinking along the same lines. Little catch at the top and the wide rivetted brass guide on the back. I'll be back to see if another half is in the area i recovered this. Thanks again mate!
