After reading up all the posts about keeping pre 1950's nickels and key dates I decided to check out my stash. Man am I glad i did. I had 14 1939 no mint mark. then I found 1X 1939D, 1x1938 no mint mark (forgot if that means its from phillie or San Fransico), and 2x1949D's. I definitely plan on checking my other nickels to see what they are worth. I'm not sure if I want to take them to my LCSs because they are all about making money and Ebay takes way too much money out of my pockets, maybe put them up for sale on Youtube. LOL!!

I am scrounging up another 100 bucks to get a box of nickels. I plan on saving up my nickels and wait till spring to dump them. I twisted my ankle bad last time trying to carry them through the snow here. I figure use my dad's hand cart, some milk crates and unload them that way in spring sounds better to me.

Check ya later,

S is San Fran, nothing or a P is Philly.

The 1939's are common, toss them back. 1938's are also somewhat common. The 1939-D is a keeper.

Here's the primary Jefferson Keys and semi-keys;

'38-D
'38-S
'39-D
'39-S
'50-D

There are other dates many people argue over, including the '55 and the '42-D, but I personally don't consider those semi-keys or anything.

Get a Red Book. Read the pages on the front. You will learn some more about numismatics and have the latest coin values. Just $16.95, so it's about the price of a regular hardcover.
