I bought this the other day at the Madison rock and gem show for cheap hoping to add Nickel to my collection. The label says iron -nickel ore? from UP Michigan, I am not sure how to confirm this however. It leaves a med-grey streak (lighter than magnetite which is the streak on the left in the image), is attracted to a magnet though not in the same league as magnetite which snaps to a magnet, is about a 4-5 in hardnes, no UV reaction and I did not bother with acid test. Any ideas on if it is nickel bearing or how I could further figure out if it is? Thx.

An XRF reader is the only way short of having a chemistry set to figure that out. Nickle in iron ore's is something the mining industry go's for but the percentage is usually low and only viable on a large scale excavation.
