The finds are less frequent at the old honey hole these days, so I wanted to spice up my hunt. I decided to concentrate on the lowly "nickel", or nickel five cent piece to be more exact. I know nickels aren't always on the menu for a tab infested park, but what the heck, I might even score a large gold ring. In the more open expanses, targets are thinner and I would dig some foil readings occasionally. I dug every nickel reading, locked on or broken. I ran zero discrimination, sensitivity up and well ground balanced. I dug a V nickel pretty early in to the hunt, then a war nickel, a buffalo, clad, another war nickel etc. etc.. I dug one silver Roosie, 3 war nickels, 1 V, 1 buffalo and a grand total of two dozen nickels. I didn't find the gold, but the hunting was fun.

I've hunted dimes there for two years now, well over 200 silver dimes have come from here. Now adays there aren't so many left. :(

Thanks Tom, I dig a couple V's a year and that's about it.

Congrats on the war nickel. I just found my first one a week or so ago.

man that's a lot of nickels :icon_thumleft: . I usually get just the opposite, lots of pull tabs & can slaw and one or two nickels--there just don't seem to be as many of them lost around here.

WTG on your nickel hunt.....Matt

Wow, good job on the nickels ! It's been awhile since I've dug a war-time nickle, WTG !
