Thanks. Just out of curosity, any reason to keep the late 1940's and early 1950's nickels other than to complete a collection? Thanks again.

just not as easy to find anymore they're going to be needed for collections of other people in times to come. They're not difficult to find but sure will be

This same question seems to get asked from time to time on this forum. I believe most of us who search nickels keep all the pre - '60's, some maybe just keep all pre - '56's and some have mentioned just keeping the pre - '60's with the lower mintages.

A lot of the common date/mint mark '46 - '60 Jefferson's have little if any value over face in circulated condition right now but their value may start increasing over time as they continue to be scarcer in circulation - esp if they decide to change the composition of the nickel in the future (like they did with the copper cent 30 years ago) which I think is just a matter of time.

But for now it's just a matter of preference for collectors/CRHers as to how they want to spend their money and time. I just think you can't go wrong with nickels because every one of them is currently worth at least face value (intrinsically) unlike any other modern day coin. And maybe over time all the pre - '60's (and maybe some of the lower mintage nickels from the '60's) will have a little more collectible value as well. :)

Btw, I'm having a really good weekend with nickels myself. On Friday I scored my very first '50D and it's in really nice condition (VF+/XF) as well as 2 dateless buffaloes. And just tonight I found my first '38S nickel. I also found another '51S (mintage 7,776,000) just last night.:)
