CTX 3030, E-Trac
Currently don't have many spots to hunt so I decided to go back to an 1880's house that I have pounded at least 10 times. My plan was to open the screen wide open on the CTX 3030 and dig every slightly decent signal being masked by all the iron hits. Man did it pay off! Don't get me wrong, I still dug a ton of iron but pulled some great coins as well.

Like most standing liberty quarters, there is no date. Can anyone determine the date by lady libertys clothing?

Thanks for looking!

Nice coins man ! - I can't help you with your question about the SLQ -( I don't think the date can be determined .)

The SLQ is a type 2 that was minted between 1917 on up, because of the stars on the obverse above the eagle. Referring to liberty's clothing the first year in 1916 they showed half her breast without clothes and then they covered it with chain mail in 1917. Yours would be impossible to tell because of the wear, and it nonetheless minted after 1916. The recessed date was minted 1925 and up which reduced wear. So my guess is that yours is a 1917-1924.

On the Buffalo you can try putting a little bit of white vinegar on the date area to see if you can raise the date if you cannot see it. Leave it on for a few days.

Nice saves asmerri. That Barber dime and V nick cleaned up nice. I would keep checking that site. I wonder who President Shirley was?

Thanks for the tip Pointman! I'll definitely try that out.

What are you using to clean those coins so nicely?
Nickels clean up great with SOS pads. Nickels are a VERY hard material so you don't need to be gentle with them while cleaning. The silvers just cleaned up with water and a soft bristle makeup brush.

Great finds!!! Congrats and hope you have even better luck next time!

Any time you find a Standing Liberty quarter, date or no date, it's a success!

Congrats & Continued success!!

Love the coins...very nice.

Looks like a great hunt...I got a SLQ....no date either...most you see posted have the date missing.

Can you acid etch the slq like a buffalo. I have some etching compound I got from radio shack would that work??

Your buffalo nickel is a 1913 type one. I found two of those in 2012....buffalo on the mound instead of the line, no dates.
