Cool key,yes it does go to show that they are not all hunted out. Way to go. That is a keeper as far as I'm concerned.

Congrats.....real nice find! I wonder if it was an old jail key due to the chain that is still on it? It looks to heavy to be a house key.

cool skeleton key... Hi n welcome from down the shore too

What an awesome key! Even cooler with that tag end of chain and the enumeration on the shank. Display it proudly...it's a beaut.

Very Nice ....I have dug many of these over the years and also just recievd a box of them from a friend on Tnet....Love them

Skeleton keys consist of a bow (the part you turn), a handle and a combination (the part inserted in the lock.) Many of these antique have highly decorative designs on the bow

That is NICE! I wonder what it opened?

Don't know. I found it in an area where there used to be a lot of hotels and old houses. And not too far from where President Garfield died. I had it a while but finally got around to cleaning it up.

HH!

Nice Relic...There is never a site that's hunted out...Opportunity always presents itself when you least expect it...Congrats for your patience...Go back, you'll find some more to add to your finds...HH

Re: Cleaning Buttons...Advice needed

That is an awesome find. I have a theory that many of the larger objects are ignored as junk by careless detectorists.

I have found many larger items in "hunted out" sites, among them some of my favorites; a circa 1920 gold filled pocket watch that I was sure was an aluminum can before I dug, and a monogrammed "coin silver" spoon from the 1850's that sounded like can slaw. That is why I stick to the old rule: Dig every good and questionable signal.
