Nice shovel?

I had a regular short shovel cut down by a sheet metal friend. You can use any shovel but this was a 39" one. Works great and didn't cost me a thing. ImageUploadedByTreasureNet.com1419900991.558604.jpgImageUploadedByTreasureNet.com1419901031.676600.jpg

I actually did the same thing... Looks practically identical.

Yeah I just don't have the extra money to buy the nice ones lol. I can't justify it yet until I find some diamonds lol.

No joke man, I'd love to find a shovel like that when I go hunting... Better than silver, lol

Hello ATProAdam,

Excellent shovel modification!

Regards,

Several of the guys I hunt with use(d) the $10 mini shovels that the Dollar Stores sells. Some only cost $8. They are keen shovels for a tight budget.

Do you have any issues of the blade flexing? I had a modded one before and maybe the way it was cut killed the integrity of the steel. Not sure how the soils are or what..but if it works..more power to ya man!

i can say a small lesche is a good investment later thou..I've tried standing up digging before. But it kills my back

So I got knee replacements in my future before back surgery .lol

Yes actually not a big problem but I tried digging in gravel and it did flex but didn't bend or anything. That is where I'd love it to be tougher and probably will one day get a more solid one. I does flex if I try and jump down on it through rocks and stuff. The only downside I've had so far.

My hunting buddy uses one of these 27-7/16 in. Round Nose Mini Shovel with D-Handle and He digs just as many holes as me with my Sampson. Its lighter to lug around too.

I bought a high-quality long-handled/small bladed shovel. I drilled a hole through the tip of the handle, installed a small loop of paracord to drag it behind me while I am hunting fields. The shovel was only $16 at Agway. I like a long-handled shovel in the fields because I get more leverage, and popping a flap is a lot easier than the Sampson. Frankly, the Sampson - by design - is good for smooth soil, no roots areas, and not that good for woods. I like the relic-hunter shovel for that. The flatter tip just slices through roots pretty good, and you actually get more of a shovelful if you have to do any digging at all.

Here's one I made yesturday..if it post...
Right one is stock left one is modified..

Looks good, man.

I've done several of these over the years... The trick to eliminating flex is to draw a few vertical beads along the back of the shovel blade with a 6011 or 6013 rod... Acts as a stringer... gives it a more rigid spine.

Sounds good, thanks. I'll have to try that for support.
