I don’t know how much I’ll be posting here. I started my own blog and I am going to focus more on maintaining it. The blog is nice because I can have more of a detecting diary, it keeps it all in one place and if I want to include Nate’s finds from a particular hunt I can. Here is the link:

These button I found awhile ago but never posted. Not a lot at this site but what I have found has been old. The Excelsior button was made in New York. The design is the same as what is on the 1787 Excelsior copper coin.

Love that button! :o Always great seeing what all you've found! I've added your link to my favorites.

Nana :)

That button looks like it might be a really good one.. in Tice;' in appears to by NY216B1 with the Horstmann backmark.. that makes it a possibly a 18403 to 1850s button. Albert's number is NY26... See if the back cleans up any better.. looks to be pre war.

Thanks for the bit of info MonkeyBoy. Unfortunately this button will not clean up any better. As you can see the back has small patches that have flaked off...If I try more cleaning it might make it worse. Here is another picture with what I thought I could identify in letters. This is tricky because what looks like an "A" might actually be part of a broken "N".

The backmark on your button is "Horstmann & Allien" NY216B-2

Nice finds!

Ok, yeah.. I'd hate to see it become damaged.. Nothing else matches up with the letters that are visible.. so pretty sure it is that backmark.. which is the good one for that button.. nice find!!

Yes, except it's B-2 as stated above.

Best Wishes--and a great button find!

Fantastic NY button!! Can you read the back mark? I would love to know which button it is.

Congrats on all the great finds!

Yeah, the two nickels (Buff and War) are not "usual". Still, from the same era as the "usual". Seems to be plenty of sites here that have mercs, Buffalos and more common silver. Much harder to find those barber/IH sites and prior.

Thanks for the ID on the button Buckles. It does fit the lettering I was able to make out. I don't have a button book because I don't find many buttons. Wish I did.
