Daryl... Nice find

What else have you found at this particular homestead?

Must have been a soft target as little mushrooming has occurred.

Thanks for sharing and i always love to see your knowledgeable posts

Thanks. I try.

Not sure if the bullet slightly mushroomed, just some crud on the bullet, the way I took the picture, or the mold.

What else did I find? About 40 old shotgun shell brass ends, a few .270 casing, a few buried beer cans, and some modern bullets fully mushroomed.

Mext time, maybe better luck and find something other than ammunition.

Your Colt thought might be correct BP but the one's I looked up aren't excactly the same. The closest "looking" bullet in that caliber range was a .36 Hazard revolver.Could also be modern too....Good Luck!!

I looked just about everywhere there was. The only .31 caliber I could find was the 1849 Colt. It has been fired but the lands and grooves are barely visible. Not what I would expect from a modern firearm. It may be different but I just can't find another .31 caliber.

I'll keep on checking but the Colt is probably your best bet. They had alot of variation's in that caliber size.
