Hey y'all. Found these two musket or round balls within the last week. Need help identifying if they are civil or revolutionary war because that area I found them in has both of those parts of history occur there. They both have a reddish tent to them and both measure 5/8 of an inch in diameter. If y'all know anything, please let me know!

Look like round balls. Can't say exact how old but I'm thinking fairly modern. They should turn white after a long time time the ground. Someone will correct me if I'm wrong.

Well I have a white round ball I found but it all depends on the soil. These have white oxidation on them too

The soil has a lot to do with the oxidation and the color. An EXACT measurement on bullets is a must for an accurate ID. A good set of calipers are a big help on many relics like buttons and can be had for under $30. Great finds and I hope some of the TN experts will give ya some input. Congrats

nice finds congrats HH

Typically they will oxidize, but like it was mentioned depends on soil or beach....I have many that look like yours from the rev war period and later

Everyone is right, pretty much impossible to date.

Many are white after 150 years in the dirt, but that does depends on chemical make up of the soil.

Like Patriot, I have them both white, and some still grey.

AND I, or anyone could make a new one right now I have a mould, as do the re-enactors, black powder enthusiasts etc.
