i picked up this 4 3/4" tall bottle at an estate sale for a buck. On the bottle label it says Gorham (silver company), and on the base it's marked sterling, with the hallmark used by Gorham between 1852-1865. But it is also marked with a "J" which could indicate 1877. The bottle is inscribed 1864-1889 with a large "S" in fancy script between those dates. It weighs almost exactly 2 troy ounces.
The cap has a thick-walled brass insert that fits snugly into the bottle. The bottle itself is much thinner walled at the top where the insert fits in, but the base appears milled and much thicker.
there is a "4" marked on the bottom of the bottle and there is a 3 marked on the cap insert, so those may be part #s.
I haven't found anything like it online. what's the value? Scrap? or collectible?
I'm not sure how the attachments got attached, and I can't seem to remove them.
