Since I've felt like I have my machine dialed in lately, I decided to hit a local old park. This parks history goes back to the 1800's, with beer gardens, shooting range and a dance hall. Needless to say its been pounded to death over the years and the finds are very far and few. Brett and I know an old timer that has been hitting this place for 30 years and he showed us his album of finds one day. Unbelievable!
So I went to a little secluded spot there that we've been to a couple time before. Within 15-20 minutes I got these from 3 different holes. The unknown coin I thought was a V but its a gram too light. It was 2" under the buffalo (my first!) and was singing more like a copper cent than a nickel. Same size as a nickel though,,,possibly a token.

Nice buff, with a clear date!
Keep at it!

Wow, nice nickel! A nice clear date for an "earlier" buffalo. Most of the ones I find are well-worn.

Nice Rosey, too...I only found one Rosey ALL YEAR last year! 13 mercs, and two Barbers...but one lousy silver Roosevelt dime. I hope I can at least match that this year! lol

I wonder if that could be a shield nickel. According to my red book they weigh in at 5 grams so do the 3 cent nickels. Nice finds. HH

Congrats on some great finds! High five on the Buff-a-low! I'm going to have to try your new DFX settings on my 8" dime in the back yard.

Nice finds!

It looks like your intuition paid off pretty good. If you ever ID that coin, make sure you let us know.

It is amazing that we can go back to these well hunted spots and get more goodies. I know the technology is improved and I like to think that the operator has a lot to do with one's success. Great finds!

What a great Buffalo! I would love to know what that "mystery" coin is. . . :icon_study:

With all the freeze & thaw that's been happening to the ground, those "hunted out"
spots are all fair game again. . . which is good

Great hunt!

Thanks everybody!,,,and yes, I would like to know myself what the mystery coin is also. It could be my oldest coin to date but is so smooth I can't see anything but a rim in some areas. Its 21 mm and weighs 3.7 grams. Funny thing is it sounds like a copper penny in a air test as well as it did in the ground. And VDI'd around 75 on the DFX. If it were a worn down Shield nickel, it would still sound off with a low tone. In the meantime I'm satisfied with it being an old worn down token.
