Beautiful day in the Ozarks, back to a farm I've only been on once as it just opened up to be able to get to it. On the way through the woods i was casually swinging and got a nice 19 signal, figured its a typical 12 gauge brass shotgun end, nope, its the small silver plated buckle. Looks like maybe off a watch strap or something.
I did a short scouting mission here last weekend and found a few old things, this farm is on the 1876 map for my area so it should be good to detect. The best thing about it, it was abandoned around 1950 so there is not a lot of modern trash at all, so you dig every signal as there are not tons of signals around.
One of my first finds today is the sterling marked fork, it was on and old road or path between where the house foundation is and some collapsed sheds or barns. I looked it up, I think it is a 1940 Gorham fork. Luckily I didn't bend it getting it out of the ground. It has an "F" monogram on it. Nearby i found the sash buckle or broach thing with a nice design on it. Had to head back out after a short time, so I cut through the other side of the farm and got a tight 18-19 signal, I thought I had finally found a coin, most likely an indian. Imagine my surprise pulling this large button with POD on it.
Apparently its a postal uniform button, and has a Utica backmark. Not sure how old but I like it.
Good hunting to all.
