I have a BertheMorisot "La Leçon de Dessin" Etching re-strike with the numbers 56-179-8 and a label of Ferdinand Roten Galleries, it also has what appears to be hand-typed Docent notes which I found behind the frame . I acquired this in Newport, RI Salvation Army for $2.00. I would like to sell it, but not sure the value... I have had estimates of $250.00 to $1500.00 to "decorative".. Any ideas how or where to sell it?

My guess would be on eBay start high after the first week then realist at a lower price. This way the people who watched it the first time will know it got relisted. Or do the gutsy thing and start it really low and get a lot of bidding on it which will draw a lot of attention. Or hang it on the wall. Good luck.

I am no kind of expert or even novice on the history and value of art like this. However, I would NOT list it on ebay with a very low starting price hoping for a bidding war to drive up the price. Any time I have a piece that I think might have significant value but I can't find comparable sales to clearly establish value, I start with a high starting bid so I don't run the risk of giving it away. Let the auction run for a week and see how many views/watchers you get. If the listing is not getting much attention either the piece has little value OR it is not properly described/categorized. If you do get a lot of views/watchers, re-list at the same price for a few weeks. If you still don't get any bites, re-list but with a Best Offer options and see if you get any responses before you start dropping the price. Good luck!

What Tallone said. Also, the art market is down right now, and a lot of art is listed on ebay.
