Hi, I found this bear trap and was wondering if anybody could tell me what it's worth. It's a #5. Seems to be in pretty good condition but it has a bullet hole in one spring.

Can’t read the tape measure how long is it, doesn’t look like a bear trap ??

I don't think the bullet ding will hurt its value as long as it still works........the value is what someone who collects traps will pay for it.

Hi, it's just under 36" in length. It's listed as a bear trap in an old trap sales brochure that I found online. Newhouse made bear traps in two sizes, a #5 (what I have) and a #6 (which stated "for elephants and grizzly bears". Lol.). The bullet hole kind of adds some character and interest to it but wasn't sure if it'd hurt the value. It still functions perfectly.

I have seen folks asking $500 and more for these, I don't know if they actually get that much. They do seem to be rare and desirable.

Back when the company Herter's was closing down they found a bunch of New Bear traps so they posted them for sale. Though I do not recall what they were asking for them I know it was more than I was willing to spend. Keep Asking for input's, quite a relic!............63bkpkr

Those do sell very well
