Hi, im am new to this site, i am trying to decide on my first metal detector by end of the month (Feb. 2014). I think im going to go with the Garrett AT Pro. I live right outside of Pittsburgh P.A. Im 39 and single and have alot of time to get invested in this hobby..i would like some advice and help on what to do first, where to look, (I have basic ideas where to look but tips would help) and i dont want to go alone especially my first times out. So if you would like to help me learn the hobby and go hunting with me (will have my m.d. and accessories by first wk of march. Please give me a shout..thank you..J.J.

Welcome aboard! Hello, I just recently got an at gold metal detector. This thing is my first, but it is amazing. I tested it in the backyard and it told me the number type of metal and the depth in the ground. I found the peice of cut aluminum from 62 years ago 7 inches down. I also found a .22 shell from my uncles gun when he was a kid living here 50 years ago.

At pro is an excellent machine. Great value too. Sorry I dont have any places for you though. Im on the west coast here. Check kellyco website.

Welcome aboard! Take a look at Sub-Forums: Pennsylvania for information (i.e., clubs, etc.) directly related to your state.

Welcome to T'net, Jaxx. I think you will find what you need here. Like vpnavy said check out the PA forum. And don't be shy about asking questions. Most of us like to give opinions! In fact, you can PM me with any questions you might have. I'll be glad to help if I can.

Hello and welcome to the forum! Happy hunting and good luck!

welcome,be sure to learn your machine and good luck:icon_thumleft:

Welcome, to the Tnet. I bought the AT Gold, I'm also new to the hobby last season. The AT for me is very easy to learn I found coins every time I went out, all clad nothing to shout about thou. Garrett has great videos to learn from on the web. I purchase it from Kellyco, they where very helpful with all my questions. And the people here gave lots of great info as well.
Good Luck and HH

good luck, and good call on your first md. don't let others sway you, its all about you.

Welcome aboard. The AT Pro is a very good machine. If you decide on that machine, Read the manual and then repeat 3 more times. Good Luck.

Hello Jaxx and welcome to T'Net, this hobby is a great one but alas it requires recovering targets that are in the ground and at this time of year that can be difficult- with the ground being frozen an all. :tongue3: :laughing7::laughing7: This will give you time to research your potential sites- be sure to check local regs if you plan on MDing on 'public property', ie; parks, schools and in some cases' even sidewalks ??? go figure. Read all you can about recovery techniques- leave no trace of your passing there, should be your goal- finding the gold is just your reward. HH

Welcome to Treasurenet! Garrett has some great videos on youtube and their website demonstrating the AT Pro. It's a great machine at it's price point and should serve you well in PA. See if you can find a detecting club in your area, they can help you with rules and regulations, where to hunt, etc. And give me a call if I can help you with any detector questions.

Hello Jaxx and welcome from Birmingham, Alabama. I have tried a few machines so far but knowing any machine well is probably your best opportunity. Good luck and we look forward to seeing your cool finds.
