Heres my silver story:

Just started stacking silver this year and I've become fully addicted.

BOUGHT: I started off purchasing bars and graded coins not knowing what I was doing (buying MS69 coins not even knowing what that meant). I shifted gears and started purchasing circulated, US silver coins and my favorite, by far, is the winged liberty "mercury dime". I unloaded my bars and a good chunk of graded coins and started stacking mostly dimes, quarters, and halves. I went overboard and ended up with about 11K of silver after only 2 months of collecting. I needed cash and sold about 4K worth of bars and some graded coins (all at a loss).

CRH: I just recently started coin roll hunting and have one good "buy bank" and one good "dump bank" and I'm working on growing this network. I've only had two sessions of half searching of special ordered halves so far and I had a nice case of beginners luck on the first session.

First 1K: I pulled a 64 Kennedy on my first roll and my luck continued. Overall I pulled 30 - 90% Kennedy Halves and 35 - 40%ers. My best roll had 4-90s and 2 40s and I was totally stoked and hooked.

Second 1K: I pulled 1 - 90% Kennedy, 1 - 90% Franklin, and 1 - 40% Kennedy.

I can't complain about my second session at all because it could have been a skunk and my first session was so good it made up for it.

METAL DETECTING: Im excited to move on to MDing now but I need to learn more so I don't make anymore rookie mistakes with my purchases.

I look forward to sharing my experiences and learning more from the community. If anyone has any tips on getting started in metal detecting, please feel free to share.

How does one get started metal detecting?
You've come to the right place, Tnet is full of knowledgable people who are willing to share.
I think a person could also learn by watching movies on utube. Garrett has some real good ones, as I would guess the other manufacturers do also. While doing so, I would be researching my local area for old homes that I could get permission to dig on.

I think the foremost thing that needs to be learned and strictly adhered to, is how to retrieve a coin and leave the area so that no one knows you've been there. The hobby is always endangered when a detectorist leaves open plugs or the landscape torn up.

Good Luck with your new hobby.

Wow.. Those results for the half dollars are amazing. Awesome luck so far buddy.. As for metal detecting, I have tried whites, Garrett's and minelabs.. I am now using the minelab etrac and it is by far the best machine I have used.. It's really all preference in the end though..

Thanks! I'll look into those detectors ASAP and see if I can maybe score one for Fathers Day. Do you CRH as well? I have 4K of half dollars from a couple banks coming in on Friday.
