Newbie who needs a little help!!!

it's not as bad as some, any detector is good if you are familiar with it! Go out and hunt, you will find stuff, when you gain experience, then upgrade! Good Hunting! omnicognic 8)

Sage advice, omni. If you try to start with too advanced a detector and get frusturated with all the options and controls, you're just as likely to chuck the whole thing before you even get started. I used a Pioneer 101 (similar to your Discovery) for more than a year before I moved up to a White's Eagle Spectrum. Happy Hunting!

Howdy
Well my openion is don't get to cheep of a detector or you will get discouraged with it and start to thing digging in the ground is for the gofers.
So spend them extra few bucks if you can and go with a Garrett or whites or a Fisher and start off enjoying your finds .
The Garrett 250 is one we have all heard good things about and runs around $200.
