Newbie Strategy

Got another question for you all. I just purchased a Bounty Hunter Discovery 1100 from Radio Shack today. I know its not the best, but for starting out I figured what the heck. I practiced using it today after i buried some coins and found mostly all of them. I did also find a bottle cap around where I live at while I attend school here in York, PA. Any way I did this for about 1 hour as my sun set for the night. After I did this i came inside and researched where I should go next, and this is where it leads to me next question.

I was thinking of starting out in the parks here, and then maybe head over the school playgrounds after the kiddies are done. I was thinking that I should do these until I get better with my MD and then work over to the older sites in my Town.

Is this a good starting strategy for a newbie MD'er? Any question or comments and insight is highly welcomed.

Congratulations on your new detector and welcome to the forum! The BH 1100 was my first detector also.. and I found a 14 kt gold metal with it, 2 silver rings and a 10 kt Black Hills gold ring..so you should do fine! I now have an Garrett Ace 250.. which I love because of the pinpointing feature but keeping my BH1100 as a backup or for my hubby to use when we go hunting together. Parks and school yards are a great place to start..also the fairgrounds if you have one close. Have fun and happy hunting!

Well thanks for the replies. They have been very helpfull. I'm actually going out right now to the parks in my area, before they get to crowded. Figured I have some time before my class later today so why not spend it praticing with my MD. I'll catch up with you all later.

Puglsley, Welcome to the Forum. I think anywhere you hunt is fine. just go for it. Any college town has to have some great places and I'm sure you will find them. As far as the tector goes hey learn it and use it. When ya need or want another then do some homework and go for it. Like Treasure Lady said she has found a bunch with heres and the bounty hunter is a good machine. There is always something better out there but learn to use the tool before ya cut the wood.I have the BH lonestar cheapie and the Excalibur and I'm not giving either of them up. HH
PS say Hi to Mortisha LOL

Thanks for the replies all, again. I went out this morning and dug some things up, from the 3 parks I went to. Found a toy car, 1 penny (1965), and a metal cylinder that looks like an old socket. I think I'm starting to get the hang of my detector and I may go back out in a little bit to an old farm house from the 1790s that they are tearing up the yard and razing the barn. Hope I find some intersting things in there, but we will see.

I'll really should do my school work, but that can wait. ;D

Till later..HH

*Floater by the way..Wednesday says HI ;)

Minelab1000 pretty much sums up my thoughts on the matter.Keep a positive attitude
and concentrate on your detector.Good luck at the old farmhouse.Sounds to me like
you're off to a good start already.Your strategy sounds great to me.Once again,
good luck and welcome to the forum!

TY Groundfisher.

I am heading to farm house right now. When I drove by before the workers where out to lunch so I decided to take mine. And looking out the window they seem to be back now. So I'm gonna head on over right now. Later...

Well I did not get to go MD'ing on the grounds of that old farmhouse yet. I talked to the workers and they said they were not comfortable letting someone walking around without permission from the boss, and luck would have it he was not there today. I'm going to go talk to my historical society when they come into my building next, and ask them about it. I did however get to talk to a real-easte agent who is selling the barn next to this house and he said that he would talk to his partners about letting me MD on it. The only problem he Had with it it is that his one partner got an MD for their birthday and he is not sure what he is planning on doing it on the land also. I told him to tell him to give me a call and we can do it together and do other plots together also.

Other then that I did not get to really go MD'ing this afternoon. I might try to go before my class tonight. Till Later HH.

Go for It Pugsley, sounds like your Hooked. Wensday says hi. ROFLMA later dude. Hey do watch the curb on HBO. Graetest show out there.

Hooked yeah I say so. I stopped by the Elementry school playground right next to where I live before I started cooking. Just gotta clean up the my digs and I'll post a pic of them.
