Hi Janggo,

Welkommen to Treasure Net :icon_sunny:
So you're from Denmark, now that's a long way from the Superstition mountains. :tongue3:

What type treasure hunting interests you most.
Looking for lost mines, gold prospecting, metal detecting for relics, etc. ?

I cant be sure as said i am just a newbie, though i do know what i really want is to dig :D Dig dig and dig like a prisoner trying to get out. I love the idea of searching for mines or even make one on my own, on hobby level offcourse. I prefer old school stuff though and would take a pickaxe any day over modern equipment as i dont mind manuel labour and the fact that it got more spirit over it But searching for mines would most likely be my first choise.

You started in a good place. The people on the T-net know more as a group than any one person can hope to know. Starting from the ground down is good too. Good luck. AND the more you read, the less you will need the luck. Welcome aboard.

Thanks i did not have to read much in here until i realised people ment buisness..less time for bullshit and that suits me well. My english could be better though so some of the more uncommen words might proove difficult for me. Anyways safty first and in case i should get down in an old shaft what would be the most important stuff to know?

Pray before you go in that you will come out! When you get out pray that you did! Then pray you won't do that again! There is enough gold outside of the mines, don't risk your life for it!

grab a gold pan or a metal detector, its as much fun a lot safer and the work just as hard
and get a buddy too

Happy prospecting

Thanks for the tip... Stay outside old shafts..though you forgot one prayer. Pray to hit the motherlode.

Just an added note about old shafts.

Outside is outside. One of the very worst places you can be is standing at the mouth (opening) of a mine shaft. That is the one spot that is always beat to death by the weather - and other prospectors, looky-lews, who like to chip off pieces, because they don't want to go inside.

Short version of a true story - we had the horrible job of digging out a dead man on his honeymoon, buried alive, standing up, because the entrace to a tunnel collapsed. His brand new wife said he was afraid to go inside, so, he just stayed at the entrance, to be safe.

Also - in the event that you DO decide to poke around a shaft - make sure you bring a shovel or digging tool in with you, and a reliable partner OUTSIDE the shaft, to drag your body back out. Never go alone.

Thanks that was acctualy the kind of information i was looking for. Greed can drive people to do weird stuff and i dont see myself as a superior. Though its better to be greedy and know what not to do than just run head on in and start digging like a mad man.

I'd recommend getting a GPS if you don't have one and a digital camera. Use them both to document every place you go and search. The more places you go and see the more they will start to run together.

To get yourself started see if you can find a book that shows the various minerals found in areas near where you live. Here in the states its pretty easy to get that kind of information (at least in the Northwest where I live). That will get you headed in the right direction

Here is a good site for research on minerals for your area www.mindat.org/ I found this in another post on this site and have used it alot it even has info for areas world wide.

Digging into research will definitely make your digging into the earth more productive. :read2:

Research is the key for any treasure hunting endeavor :icon_thumleft:
Search historical records for clues to finding old mining operations or places that might contain caches of gold or treasure.

Ask old timers about rumors of any buried treasure or ancient ruins that may contain treasure.
Were there stories of pirate activity or outlaw hideouts or Viking camps?

Keep a logbook as mentioned above.....you may be surprised to see how seemingly unrelated pieces of information may fit together and lead to treasure or an ancient deposit of gold.

I like gold so I study everything I can get my hands on about gold. Start doing searches on gold and prospecting. There is a wealth of information about it online. Stop by my personal page and see some info: http://forum.treasurenet.com/index.php/board,720.0.html

Also here are some of the best posts on T-Net you will find about prospecting. http://forum.treasurenet.com/index.php/topic,453.0.html
Then get ready to get your hands dirty. :icon_sunny:
