Newbie Question

Greetings.

I recently dug this old spoon in my yard but when I cleaned it up I found out most of the silver plate was gone.

Any ideas on what I can do? I'd like to make it look nicer somehow.

Also, does anyone know the approximate age of this spoon?

60's Kid, there's not much you can do. When thy're that far gone it's not worth the effort to restore. I've seen people us an old fork, bend the tines a bit, tie a string to them and drill a hole in the spoons and 1 or 2 knives. Run the string (preferably fishing line) and make windchimes out of them.

I know this, coin doctors will sometimes paint a silver coin with Mercury. That makes it look brand new , filling scratches and returning luster. You could try it on the spoon, you may need a good percent of silver in the item. If you try it with the spoon DO NOT eat with it. You can tell if a coin has been doctored in this manor by feeling the coin with your thumb if it feels greasy or slick it is more than likely coated with Mercury. Also did you try just silver polish or jewelry cleaner.
